Santorini Hotels: My Tips
- We have personally stayed at or toured every hotel on this list. These are not generic hotel listings. They are my favorite places on the island based on years of visits, hotel inspections, repeat stays, and honest comparisons.
- The biggest predictor of hotel happiness is location. A great hotel in the wrong village can be frustrating. A simpler hotel in the right village makes for a better trip. For the full breakdown, see my guide to where to stay in Santorini.
- For most first-time visitors, stay on the caldera. The classic Santorini hotel experience is found in Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, or Oia. This is where you get volcano views, cliffside paths, cave suites, sunset terraces, and the island’s most memorable hotels.
- Choose the village by travel style. Fira is best for restaurants, nightlife, shopping, buses, and convenience. Firostefani is the best compromise: caldera views, quieter nights, and an easy walk to Fira. Imerovigli has the best views and the most romantic hotel terraces. Oia has the famous postcard look, luxury shopping, and many of the island’s most polished hotels, but it is expensive and crowded.
- Caldera view and sunset view are not the same thing. A caldera view looks into the volcanic crater. A sunset view looks toward the sun dropping into the sea. Some hotels have both, but many do not. Be especially careful in Oia, where a hotel may have a perfect caldera view but no direct sunset view.
- Book early for May through October. For the best caldera-view rooms, private-pool suites, honeymoon hotels, and family rooms, 6 to 8 months ahead is smart. For July, August, and early September, 9 to 10 months ahead is not crazy. Waiting rarely gets you better value.
- Do not assume “private pool” means fully private. Many Santorini plunge pools, jacuzzis, and terraces are visible from public paths, neighboring hotels, restaurants, or rooms above. If privacy matters, check photos carefully and ask the hotel directly.
- Check whether the pool is heated. Many plunge pools are not heated unless the room description clearly says so. In July and August, this usually doesn’t matter. In April, May, early June, late September, and October, an unheated plunge pool can be too cold to enjoy.
- You can save serious money by skipping the room view. The trick to saving money in Santorini is staying a few minutes back from the caldera edge. You lose the private terrace view, but you can still walk to the same public viewpoints, restaurants, bars, and sunset spots.
- Beach hotels are better for space, pools, and families. If you want larger rooms, flatter streets, easier parking, better prices, and quick beach access, look at Kamari, Perissa, or Perivolos.
- Accessibility is a real issue on the caldera. Most cliffside hotels have stairs, uneven paths, narrow lanes, and no elevators.

- Best Hotels for Privacy: Aenaon Villas (Imerovigli) • Santorini Sky (Pyrgos) • Coco-Mat Hotel (Akrotiri) • Vedema Resort (Megalochori)
- Best Hotels for Couples: Cosmopolitan Suites (Fira) • Katikies (Oia) • Charisma Suites (Oia) • Carpe Diem (Pyrgos)

Santorini Hotel Regrets and Happy Surprises
I get thousands of emails and comments from travelers planning Santorini trips, and the same themes come up again and again after they return. People love the island, but the happiest travelers are the ones who understand the tradeoffs before they book.
The Regrets
- Staying at the beach for the entire trip: Kamari, Perissa, and Perivolos are good for families, swimming, space, and value. But many first-timers later wish they had spent at least 2 or 3 nights on the caldera. The beaches are easy. The cliff view is what makes Santorini special.
- Assuming a luxury suite means total privacy: Many cave suites, terraces, hot tubs, and plunge pools are visible from public paths, neighboring hotels, restaurants, or rooms above. “Private terrace” does not always mean secluded terrace.
- Missing the heated-pool detail: Many plunge pools are not heated unless the room description clearly says so. In May, early June, late September, and October, an unheated pool can be too cold to enjoy.
- Underestimating the stairs: Caldera hotels are beautiful because they are built into cliffs. That means steps, slopes, uneven paths, and sometimes awkward luggage access. Hotel staff can help with bags, but they cannot remove the stairs from your daily routine.
- Choosing Oia only because it is famous: Oia is gorgeous, but it is not automatically the best place to stay. It is expensive, crowded in the afternoon, and less convenient for buses and island exploring than Fira.
- Not booking transfers ahead: Santorini’s airport and ferry port can be chaotic in high season. Taxis are limited, and many caldera hotels are not directly reachable by car. Pre-booked transfers make arrival day much easier.
The Happy Surprises
- The views from Imerovigli: Many first-timers expect Oia to have the best views, then arrive in Imerovigli and realize the views are even better. It sits higher, feels calmer, and has wide-open caldera views toward the volcano, Skaros Rock, and Oia.
- How much people love Firostefani: Firostefani quietly over-delivers. It has excellent views and quieter nights, but you can still walk into Fira for restaurants, shopping, buses, and nightlife.
- The hotel service: Santorini’s best hotels are very good at logistics. Even mid-range properties often help with transfer timing, luggage, sunset reservations, boat tours, restaurant bookings, and realistic advice about crowds.
- The quality of hotel breakfast: At many caldera hotels, breakfast is not just a buffet downstairs. It is often a proper meal delivered to your terrace, and when it comes with a volcano view, it adds real value.
- Enjoying the view without paying for every view: Readers who stay a few minutes back from the cliff quickly discover they can still walk to the same public caldera paths, viewpoints, bars, and restaurants. A room without a private view can be a smart tradeoff if it frees up money for a boat tour, winery visit, or better meals.
My takeaway: Santorini rewards smart planning. Pay for the caldera view if it matters to you, but don’t let the online hype convince you that an expensive cliffside hotel is the only right way to do Santorini. The island is expensive enough that you want the tradeoffs to be intentional, not surprises.
1. Grace Hotel – Imerovigli

I love this hotel. The huge pool, great restaurant, and idyllic views make it hard to beat. I still remember my first visit almost 10 years ago, just after starting this site. Rooms, suites, and the villa are spacious (ranging from 50 to 400 square meters) and most feature outdoor heated plunge pools. All accommodations come with terraces, twice-daily maid service, and tailored amenities like room scents and pillow menus. The hotel offers incredible panoramic sunset views over the caldera, centered on Skaros Rock and stretching from Oia to Akrotiri.
2. Katikies Santorini – Oia

My favorite hotel in Oia, famous for its sweeping caldera views and three gorgeous infinity pools. Carved into the cliffside, suites feature crisp white interiors and heritage architecture; about half include an outdoor jacuzzi or plunge pool. Dining is world-class, highlighted by the Michelin-starred Botrini’s and a sushi champagne bar. Beautifully located on the marble pedestrian path near some of the island’s best dining and shopping.
3. The Tsitouras Collection – Firostefani

Elegant boutique hotel set in an 18th-century sea captain’s mansion. It offers panoramic views from its infinity pool over the caldera and volcanoes. Each suite and the three-bedroom villa feature polished decor, antiques, and sunset caldera views. A la carte breakfast and nightly sunset cocktails are complimentary, served to each suite or the sun terrace. The location is ideal: on a footpath in Firostefani, just steps from the village’s main square and a 10-minute walk to Fira.
4. Canaves Oia Suites – Oia

All-suite luxury hotel where each spacious suite includes a private, heated plunge pool. The main pool has jacuzzi jets and is partially sheltered, while the shallow infinity pool hovers on the cliff’s edge. The three-bedroom villa adds a full kitchen and sleeps up to seven. Dining options include creative Greek fare at Petra Restaurant and romantic dining on the Panorama Terrace. A private cellar, wellness center, yoga, and weekly events keep guests entertained. Located at the entrance to Oia, it’s a short walk from dining and shops but remains quiet and crowd-free.
5. Astra Suites – Imerovigli

Romantic all-suite hotel with some of the best sunset views on the island. It is one of only a handful of luxury hotels on the caldera that allows children. Spacious suites include kitchenettes and private terraces; many add outdoor jacuzzis or private pools. The two-bedroom family suite sleeps four, and villas can accommodate six. It’s nestled in the heart of Imerovigli village, above Skaros Rock and steps from excellent restaurants.
6. Aenaon Villas – Imerovigli

Perched on one of the highest points in the caldera, this is a serene hideaway with expansive views. Its six luxury villas blend traditional Cycladic design with modern minimalism. Amenities include bespoke service and a caldera-view pool. Two villas have their own private water features. A true getaway, the location feels remote, so a rental car is recommended for exploring the island.
7. Saint Hotel – Oia

Lavish, adults-only hotel featuring a plush spa with an infinity waterfall pool. Suites feature caldera views, king-sized beds, and furnished terraces with private jacuzzis or heated pools. This trendy hotel offers DJ sets, wine tastings, yachts, and a fleet of Range Rovers. Complimentary breakfast is delivered to each suite. The hotel sits on the pedestrian pathway at the east entrance to Oia, a pleasant walk to the village center.
8. Kivotos Hotel – Imerovigli

Glamorous hotel distinguished by its glass-front infinity pool and unorthodox design. Accommodations come with seasonally-heated jacuzzis, plunge pools, or swimming pools. All rooms and suites have spectacular sunset caldera views. Some villas are dug deep into the volcanic cliff for maximum privacy. It’s nestled in Imerovigli at the beginning of the Skaros Rock hiking trail.
9. Santorini Sky – Pyrgos

Ultra-private escape best loved for its Sky Dome Experience: romantic stargazing in a climate-controlled dome. All villas include a king-sized bed, indoor and outdoor showers, and a panoramic terrace with a jacuzzi or pool. Breakfast and unlimited snacks/drinks (excluding alcohol) are complimentary. It boasts a beautiful setting in the highest village on Santorini, with sunrise and sunset views. You’ll definitely need a car to explore from here.
10. Athina Luxury Suites – Fira

This is my favorite hotel in Fira. It offers a great location overlooking the volcano, steps from the island’s best dining and nightlife. Each suite is unique with upscale minimalist design and sweeping sunset views; many add private outdoor jacuzzis. The restaurant, Esperisma, offers elevated Greek fare. One of the few kid-friendly hotels on the caldera, Athina offers babysitting and suites large enough for families of four to six.

An extraordinary all-suite, adults-only retreat perched on the edge of Pyrgos. Because it sits at one of the highest points on the island, you get a 270-degree view that captures both the sunrise over the Aegean and the sunset over the caldera – something you won’t find at the cliffside hotels in Oia or Fira. Every suite is massive and comes with its own private, heated infinity pool and a large terrace. It is a very quiet, sophisticated spot, though you will definitely want a rental car to explore the rest of the island from here.

Best Areas for Hotels in Santorini
Choosing the right hotel in Santorini starts with choosing the right area. A great hotel in the wrong village can make the trip harder than it needs to be. For the full village-by-village breakdown, see my guide to where to stay in Santorini. The short version is below.

Caldera Hotels vs Beach Hotels
For most first-time visitors, I recommend staying on the caldera, at least for part of the trip. The cliffside view of the volcano, sea, and flooded crater is what makes Santorini different from every other Greek island. This is where you’ll find the island’s most dramatic hotels, cave suites, sunset terraces, and best honeymoon stays.

The west side of the island looks out into the caldera and is where Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, and Firostefani are located.
The downside is price, stairs, crowds, and less space. Caldera hotels are expensive, many have tricky luggage access, and “private” terraces are not always fully private. If the view matters, pay for it. If it doesn’t, stay a few minutes back from the cliff and spend the savings on a boat tour, winery visit, or one great sunset dinner.
Beach hotels are better for families, pools, larger rooms, flatter streets, easier parking, and lower prices. Kamari is the easiest beach town to recommend, especially for families and first-time visitors who still want simple bus access to Fira. Perissa and Perivolos have the better longer beach, and more beach-club energy, but they’re farther from the caldera towns.

The east side of the island is where the beaches are found. This is the beach area of Radisson Blu Zaffron Resort in Kamari.
I don’t recommend staying at the beach for your entire first Santorini trip unless swimming, kids, budget, or mobility are the priority. The beaches are fun and easy. The caldera is the reason people remember Santorini.
Which Caldera Village Has the Best Hotels?
There are four main caldera villages: Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, and Oia. All have great views, but they feel very different.
- Fira: Best for first-timers who want restaurants, nightlife, shopping, buses, and convenience. It has excellent caldera hotels, but inland rooms near the bar streets can be loud in summer.
- Firostefani: Best compromise. Caldera views, quieter nights, good restaurants, and an easy walk into Fira. I like it a lot for couples and first-timers who want views without staying in the busiest part of town.
- Imerovigli: Best for views, honeymoons, privacy, and romantic splurge hotels. It’s quieter and less convenient than Fira, but the hotel terraces are some of the best on the island.
- Oia: Best for luxury hotels, boutique shopping, and the postcard Santorini look. It’s beautiful, expensive, and very crowded before sunset. Also, be aware: many Oia hotels have caldera views or sunset views, but not both.
Quiet and Inland Hotel Areas
For repeat visitors, longer stays, or travelers renting a car, the quieter villages can be excellent.
- Pyrgos: Great for panoramic island views, wineries, traditional lanes, and better-value suites with pools. Not a classic caldera stay, and a car is strongly recommended.
- Megalochori: Good for families, villas, wine country, and a calmer village feel. Some nearby hotels have caldera views, but the village center does not.
- Akrotiri: Best for quiet caldera views, archaeology, Red Beach, Vlychada, and the lighthouse sunset. Good value, but spread out and much easier with a car.
My simple advice: for a first Santorini visit, stay in Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, or Oia if the budget allows. Choose Kamari, Perissa, or Perivolos if beach time, family logistics, or value matter more than the view. Choose Pyrgos, Megalochori, or Akrotiri if you want quiet, space, and a rental-car trip.
Fira Hotels

Fira, the capital of Santorini and the hub of nightlife and bus transportation.
Fira is the best hotel base for first-time visitors who want convenience: restaurants, nightlife, shopping, buses, taxis, tour pickups, and caldera views all in one place. The best hotels are along the caldera edge, where noise is less of an issue and views are excellent. Inland hotels are better value, but check location carefully if you’re sensitive to nightlife noise. Fira is not as romantic as Imerovigli or as polished as Oia, but it is the easiest place to stay if you want to explore the island without renting a car.

Oia Hotels

The most romantic and enchanting town on Santorini.
Oia has Santorini’s most famous luxury hotels, best boutique shopping, and the classic whitewashed postcard setting. It’s the right choice if you want polished service, cave suites, private pools, and the most photogenic village on the island. The tradeoff is price and crowds, especially from late morning through sunset. Also be careful with room views: many Oia hotels have caldera views or sunset views, but not both. If you want quiet romance and the best overall views, Imerovigli beats Oia. If you want the iconic Santorini look, Oia is still the star.

Imerovigli Hotels

At the highest elevation on the caldera, Imerovigli has the best sunset views.
Imerovigli is the best area for views, privacy, honeymoons, and romantic splurge hotels. It sits higher on the caldera than Fira or Oia, so hotel terraces feel more dramatic and less exposed to passing crowds. The best properties here are expensive, but this is where paying for a private terrace, plunge pool, or sunset view makes the most sense. The downside is that Imerovigli is quiet: limited nightlife, fewer shops, and fewer casual dining options than Fira. For couples who want the caldera at its most peaceful and impressive, this is my top choice.
The Best Imerovigli Hotels
Firostefani Hotels

The caldera view in Firostefani, a relaxed village near the capital but with quieter nights.
Firostefani is the safest hotel recommendation for many first-time visitors: beautiful caldera views, quieter nights, and an easy walk into Fira for restaurants, shopping, buses, and nightlife. Hotels here are calmer and more intimate than in Fira, and better value than Oia or Imerovigli. The village itself is small, so don’t expect shopping or late-night energy. But for couples who want views without feeling isolated, Firostefani is one of the smartest places to book.
The Best Firostefani Hotels
Kamari Hotels

Kamari is the most popular beach in Santorini, though there’s still plenty of wide open spaces.
Kamari is an easy beach town to recommend, especially for families. Hotels are better value than on the caldera, rooms tend to be larger, pools are more common, and the flat beachfront promenade makes daily life simple. It’s also the most convenient beach base for getting into Fira by bus or taxi. The tradeoff is that you don’t get caldera views, sunset terraces, or the classic cliffside Santorini atmosphere. Choose Kamari if beach time, easy meals, and practical logistics matter more than the view.
The Best Kamari Hotels
Perissa and Perivolos Hotels

Perivolos Beach, located on the southeast coast of Santorini, offers a few excellent beach clubs.
Perissa and Perivolos are best for longer beach stays, larger rooms, beach clubs, and better value. Perissa is the busier, more practical section, with more affordable hotels and casual restaurants. Perivolos (farther south) is more polished and spread out, with better beach clubs, a few luxury hotels, and a more grown-up beach scene. The sand is finer than Kamari, but the area is farther from Fira and the caldera, so sightseeing takes more planning. A rental car helps, especially if staying in Perivolos or Agios Georgios.

Megalochori Hotels

The church at the entrance to Megalochori, one of Santorini’s most charming traditional villages.
Megalochori is a good hotel base for families, wine lovers, and travelers who want a quieter traditional village with more space for the money. The village center has tavernas, wineries, tasting rooms, and a calm square. This area works best with a rental car, especially if you want to visit wineries, beaches, Akrotiri, and Fira without relying on seasonal bus schedules.

Pyrgos Hotels

As traditional as it gets in Santorini, Pyrgos is brimming with domed churches, neoclassical architecture, castle ruins and cobblestone streets.
Pyrgos is best for travelers who want a quieter, more traditional Santorini base with panoramic island views, good restaurants, wineries nearby, and better-value suites with pools. It sits on a hill below Profitis Ilias, so the views are wide rather than classic caldera-cliff views. Hotels here can be excellent, especially for repeat visitors and couples who want privacy, but a car is strongly recommended. If you want nightlife, easy buses, or the famous cliffside hotel experience, stay in Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, or Oia instead.

Akrotiri Hotels

Akrotiri is less visited than other villages on the caldera but offers plenty to see and do.
Akrotiri is the quiet caldera alternative: good views, lower prices than the main cliff villages, nearby archaeology, Red Beach, Vlychada, and the lighthouse sunset. Most of the best hotels are not in the small village center, but spread along the caldera side of the peninsula, so exact location matters. This is a strong choice for travelers with a rental car who want space, quiet, and value. It is not ideal for nightlife, shopping, or short first visits where you want to walk everywhere.

Mesaria Hotels

Mesaria is centrally located with a good mix of authenticity, traditional architecture, and modern conveniences.
Mesaria is a practical central base with a mix of traditional village hotels, modern resorts, and a few caldera-edge properties on the western outskirts. It works well for travelers with a car who want quick access to the airport, ferry port, Fira, beaches, and wineries. Book here for convenience, space, and value, not for romance or postcard views.

Emporio Hotels

Emporio is where most of Santorini’s locals live.
Emporio is best for travelers who want a local village stay, more space, and better value well away from the caldera crowds. The old village has a fascinating fortified core, narrow lanes, cave-style homes, and local tavernas, but it is not a conventional tourist base. Hotels and villas here work best for independent travelers with a rental car who want to explore beaches, wineries, Pyrgos, and the south of the island.

Finikia Hotels

For a local vibe with easy access to the glamor of Oia, Finikia is a great option.
Finikia is a smart alternative to Oia if you want a quieter village feel, better value, and easy access to Oia without paying full Oia prices. Hotels here are smaller, calmer, and more inland-feeling, with no dramatic caldera views but more space and privacy. The walk to the start of Oia’s pedestrian lanes is about 10 minutes. Finikia is best for couples and repeat visitors who want Oia nearby but don’t need to sleep in the middle of it.
The Best Finikia Hotels
Thirassia Island Hotels

Thirassia Island offers a rustic retreat with plenty of charm.
Thirassia is not a normal Santorini base. It is quiet, rustic, lightly developed, and best for travelers who want seclusion rather than convenience. Hotels here offer a completely different experience from Oia or Fira: no crowds, slower days, simple tavernas, walking trails, and wide views back toward Santorini. The downside is transport. Boat connections vary by season and schedule, so don’t expect easy and frequent trips back and forth to the main island. Stay here for a retreat, not as a practical sightseeing base.

Santorini Hotels with Private Jacuzzi or Plunge Pool

Several private plunge pools on different levels above the caldera at Charisma Suites in Oia.
Many Santorini hotels have private pools, plunge pools, jacuzzis, hot tubs, or outdoor soaking tubs, but the details matter. A “private pool” is often small, and it may be visible from public paths, neighboring terraces, restaurants, or rooms above. Check whether the pool is heated. Many larger plunge pools and swimming pools are not heated unless the room description clearly says so. In July and August, this usually doesn’t matter. In April, May, early June, late September, and October, an unheated plunge pool can feel too cold to use. In shoulder season, I’d rather have a heated jacuzzi or hot tub than a larger unheated pool.
FAQ on Hotels and Santorini
What is the best hotel in the Santorini beach towns?

The private beach area of Istoria on Perivolos Beach.
Istoria on Perivolos Beach is my favorite beachfront hotel in Santorini. Most beach hotels on the island are simpler than the luxury hotels on the caldera, but Istoria is the exception: stylish suites, a beautiful pool, polished service, a good restaurant, spa, and a proper serviced beach setup. The tradeoff is location. Perivolos is great for beach time, but it’s a good distance from Fira, Oia, and the caldera villages.
A close second is Sea Breeze on Exomitis Beach, especially for travelers who want a resort feel and more privacy. In Kamari, Radisson Blu Zaffron Resort is the best adults-only option, with large pools and easy access to Kamari’s restaurants and beach promenade.
Can you recommend good Santorini hotels that are not so expensive?
Yes, but the main way to save money in Santorini is to compromise on the view, the pool, or the location. Caldera-view rooms cost more for a reason. If you stay a few minutes back from the cliff, or choose a simpler hotel, you can still walk to the same viewpoints, restaurants, and sunset spots.
In Fira, good-value favorites include Kavalari, Enigma, Keti, and Kamares Apartments.
In Firostefani, look at Reverie, Damigos Caldera World, and Villa Ilias. Not every room has a view, but the location is excellent.
In Oia, Delfini Villas and Aspa Villas are simpler than the big-name luxury hotels but can be good value for Oia.
For caldera views outside the main villages, compare Volcano View and Lilium Santorini Villa. They’re less walkable than Fira or Firostefani, but better value for the view.
What is better: a sunset view hotel or a caldera view hotel?
I’d choose a caldera view. You enjoy it all day: morning coffee, afternoon pool time, dinner, and late-night drinks. A sunset view is wonderful, but it lasts a few minutes. The best setup is both, but if I had to choose, I’d rather have a great caldera view and walk to a sunset spot when needed.
Be especially careful in Oia. Many hotels have either caldera views or direct sunset views, but not both. In Fira, Firostefani, and Imerovigli, most caldera hotels also get a good sunset, though the exact angle depends on the room.
What hotel has the best views in Santorini?
Imerovigli has the best overall hotel views in Santorini because it sits high on the caldera, with wide angles toward the volcano, Skaros Rock, Thirassia, Oia, and Fira.
If I had to choose one hotel for the best caldera view, it would be Astra Suites. The views stretch in several directions and feel close to perfect. Grace Hotel is a very close second, with a similar perspective and one of the best pool terraces on the island.
Other excellent view hotels in Imerovigli include Aenaon Villas, Katikies Chromata, Altana Heritage Suites, Kapari, and Avaton Resort & Spa. In Firostefani, The Tsitouras Collection and Homeric Poems are standouts. In Oia, Ikies, Canaves Oia Suites, and Katikies have superb caldera views, while Esperas is better for sunset views over Ammoudi Bay.
What is the best hotel in Santorini not on the caldera?

A private pool outside a villa at Santorini Sky in Pyrgos.
Santorini Sky is my favorite hotel in Santorini away from the caldera villages. It sits high above Pyrgos near Profitis Ilias, with huge panoramic views, private villas, heated jacuzzis or pools, and a very private feel. It’s a great choice for couples who want quiet and space.
The tradeoff is location. This is not a walk-out-your-door caldera village hotel. You’ll want a rental car, especially if you plan to visit Fira, Oia, beaches, wineries, and restaurants around the island.
What are the best Santorini hotels for privacy, quiet, and solitude?

Aenaon Villas, located on the caldera and about halfway between Imerovigli and Oia.
For privacy and quiet, my top choices are:
- Aenaon Villas – Caldera views, serious privacy, and a peaceful location between Imerovigli and Oia. Best with a car or taxis.
- Santorini Sky – Private villas, huge island views, and a secluded setting near Pyrgos. A rental car is strongly recommended.
- Coco-Mat Hotel – Quiet Akrotiri setting with caldera views, good sleep-focused design, and easy access to the lighthouse sunset.
- Vedema Resort – A spacious, garden-like resort in Megalochori, good for privacy, families, and wine-country stays.
When should I book my Santorini hotel?
For May through October, book as early as you can. For the best luxury hotels, caldera-view rooms, private-pool suites, and family rooms, 6 to 8 months ahead is smart. For July, August, early September, honeymoons, and specific room categories, 9 or 10 months ahead is not too early.
What is a cave hotel and where are they found?
Cave hotels are rooms or suites built into the cliff or hillside, with curved ceilings, thick walls, irregular shapes, and private terraces outside. They stay naturally cool in summer and are a big part of the classic Santorini hotel experience.
Most cave hotels are in Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani, and Fira. Some are luxurious and polished, while others are simpler converted cave houses. They can be beautiful, but they often involve stairs, limited natural light, and terraces that may not be fully private.
What town has the best restaurants near the best hotels?
Fira has the most restaurant choice and the best inexpensive food. Oia has the most polished dining scene. Imerovigli has fewer restaurants, but several excellent ones and the best romantic settings. These are my favorite restaurants in Santorini.
